My life in Africa

I am Rubanga-Kene George I come from Gulu District Northern Uganda. I am Ugandan Acholi by tribe Age 34 years a married man with four children.

I came to Kampala in 1994 due to insurgency in the Northern Uganda. Before I came, I was captured by the rebel Lord Resistant Army (LRA) where I took one and half year with them in the bush. While I was in the bush, life was so tough I was tied up with the rob and move under the control of rebel. For three months, I was under control I could not move alone and I could eat once a week. One time when we were preparing food we were attacked by Uganda People Defense forces (UPDF) where I was short on the left leg.

With all these, one day around midnight when people are asleep, I decided to escape I then sneak quietly and reported at Moyo barrack from where I was asked a lot f questions for instance I was asked how escape, the number of people I was with them, and finally my decision. Because I had a lot of fear that UPDF might kill me if am to say I want to come back home, I decided to train and joint the UPDF. After three weeks, I was then brought to the place called We-Got near Gulu barrack for refresher training course for six months after I joined Uganda people defense forces until 1994 when I filled the Voluntary retrenchment form.

In the late 1994 I came to Kampala and settled at Banda Zone One Nakawa Division hopping to get easy life. But to the contrary, life became more difficult almost more than ever before I had nothing to do to raise some money to keep with my family. I decided to joint tight security limited mean while at he same time, when I come back from guard, I have to go for stone query. But still, all in all life was yet problematic till when I joined Life in Africa.

Infact when I joined Life in Africa, I started to experience completely new and wonderful life. First I begun to meet up the demand of my family through the money that I get from handcraft promoted by Life in Africa, secondly my major source of income changed from hard work of stone query to simple work of handcraft, and generally Life in Africa has brought great improvement in my life style both socially and ecomomically.

Life in Africa has played a lot not to me only but to the community also at large for instance providing other means of getting income through promoting craftsmen ship and through improvement in their life style and finally promoting cultural belief.

I am therefore asking for the loan of 800.000/= for building a 2 rooms house.
